Van de Ven Double Halts The Toffees' Run at New Stadium

The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in duties at both ends of the field

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, as well, was unable to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.
